Join SIMSA and FPDI to hear about up to $40,000 in government funding for hiring first-year apprentices. This event is for SIMSA members only.
The government of Canada funds organizations that work with employers in the skilled trades. The organizations then give financial support to small and medium-sized employers to hire/train first-year apprentices. They also provide other supports to employers to help them take part in apprenticeship.
Eligibility:
- Small and medium-sized employers (SMEs) with 499 or less paid employees
- Operating in one of the 39 funded trades with a journey person or designated trainer
- SMEs are eligible for two, first-year Red Seal apprentices per fiscal year (for the next two years) for a potential incentive of $40,000
Financial Support to SMEs:
- $5,000 to help pay for upfront costs such as salaries and training of first-year apprentices
- Additional $5,000 for SMEs for hiring from an equity-deserving group:
- women,
- persons with disabilities,
- Indigenous people,
- Members of the LGBTQ2+ communities,
- newcomers, and
- visible minorities.
