In partnership with industry stakeholders, WCB has developed a new injury severity index and dashboard that categorizes incidents based on their impact—ranging from minor (Level 1) to life-threatening (Level 5).
This Lunch & Learn session will introduce the injury severity dashboard pilot, providing insight into why traditional lagging indicators are no longer enough on their own, and how this new approach can better reflect true safety performance.
Participants will gain an understanding of how this pilot supports more meaningful safety evaluation and learn how trades and subcontractors can get involved.
What You Will Learn
- The limitations of relying solely on total injury rates or frequency data when assessing safety performance for bidding
- How the injury severity index provides a more accurate and balanced view of risk and outcomes
- Practical ways the severity matrix can be used to strengthen your competitive position in the bidding process
- How to request and use your organization’s WCB severity dashboard
Moving beyond traditional injury metrics toward severity-based insights enables organizations to demonstrate a deeper, more accurate picture of safety performance. This pilot is an opportunity to lead the shift toward smarter, more meaningful safety measurement—ultimately supporting better decision-making, stronger bids, and safer workplaces.
