Lunch & Learn: Opportunities to Innovate, Thrive and Excel in Mining with PAMI (Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute)

Microsoft Teams Meeting
November 26, 2021 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (CST)
Event Details

At this lunch and learn you will hear how PAMI:

  • has helped clients in the mining sector improve material handling performance leading to increased efficiency and profit.
  • can address premature wear issues to reduce maintenance using numerical analysis tools, and
  • has evolved under new leadership and adopted a new strategic plan focusing on clients in Mining, Transportation, and of course, Agriculture.

Leading the presentation for PAMI will be:

Larry Jorgenson, P.Eng. Technical Sales Rep

Larry is a U of S Mechanical Engineer (’94) who has worked at PAMI for over 15 years. Throughout Larry’s career he has gained experience in steel products manufacturing, plastic rotational molding, ventilation systems, rotating machinery (centrifuges), and most recently mechanical and environmental testing. In his current role, Larry seeks out clients in mining and transportation who have a need for PAMI’s expertise, develops proposals and contracts, and represents the Client internally as PAMI staff conduct the project. Larry maintains PAMI’s membership in SIMSA and CIM and is a regular attendee at SIMSA events.

Ian Paulson, M.Sc., P.Eng. Technical Services Lead

Ian leads a small engineering team that leverages numerical modeling and physical testing to develop data-driven solutions for technology development and industrial R&D projects in the mining, transportation, and agriculture sectors. Recently, Ian has also taken on a broader role as PAMI’s Technical Services Lead overseeing staff working on broader mechanical engineering and testing projects. Ian has been with PAMI for over 4 years and has prior experience with CNH, Honda, and Cameco.

Larry and Ian will provide a broad overview of PAMI covering topics such as:

Who is PAMI?

Who are PAMI’s Clients?

What’s changed at PAMI? (Strat plan, Mining/Transportation/Ag focus)

What facilities/tools do we have?

Who/how can PAMI help?

How are we different from other research/design/build/test/document organizations?

Why we DO NOT RETAIN IP!

In addition to these broad topics, Ian Paulson will provide an overview of the numerical analysis tools (Altair, EDEM, STAR CCM+, etc.) and some of the problems we’ve solved for industry using these tools.
