Lunch & Learn: Prompt Payment Legislation

Prompt Payment and Adjudication were added to The Builders’ Lien Act in 2022 to improve payment timelines and provide a faster, non-adversarial way to resolve disputes in construction. While the legislation does not currently apply to mining, SaskPower, or professional services, there is increasing interest in how it could work in the mining supply chain.

This session will cover:

• What Prompt Payment and Adjudication are, and how they work in practice
• Who is currently exempt from the legislation
• How disputes are resolved through adjudication while maintaining business relationships
• What’s been learned from three years of use in the construction sector

Presenting will be Ryan Fredrickson, Director of Advocacy and Procurement with the Construction Association of Saskatchewan and an Adjudicator with the Saskatchewan Construction Dispute Resolution Office.

A Q&A will follow the presentation.
