As part of Saskatchewan Mining Week, SIMSA is pleased to be hosting a lunch with Orano Canada's Louis-Pierre Gagnon, Director of Mining.  Louis will discuss how technology is enabling mineral resource development.  He will also talk about SABRE – an innovative mining method that is considered environmentally friendly as a result of less intrusive nature and potentially smaller surface footprint when compared to open pit or underground mining methods.

Louis-Pierre Gagnon is the Director, Mining at Orano Canada Inc.  Louis-Pierre is a registered Professional Engineer with APEGS and PEO.  He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering at McGill University in Montreal and a Master’s of Applied Sciences in Blasting at Laurentian University in Sudbury.  In the mining industry since 1995, Louis-Pierre has held various technical and management positions in engineering, operations, maintenance and projects.  He has expertise in open pit and underground mines including uranium, potash and nickel.  His diverse domestic and international work has exposed him to start-up operations to mine shutdowns for companies like Vale, Cameco, Mosaic and Orano in Canada, New Caledonia, France, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia.  Louis-Pierre’s current work at Orano in Northern Saskatchewan is in leading SABRE, an innovative high-pressure water-jet mining method, Operation and Project Teams.  In 2018, Louis-Pierre received the Brian Eckel Distinguished Service Award from APEGS.
